Rogers Files for Re-Election
Says creating jobs, fighting illegal immigration among top concerns

Anniston, AL--Third District Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Saks) filed his papers for re-election with the Alabama Republican Party late yesterday.

“I have been deeply honored to serve the people of the Third Congressional District in Washington,” Rogers said.

Since being re-elected in 2004, Rogers was appointed to the influential Homeland Security Committee. As Chairman of its Management and Oversight subcommittee, Rogers has investigated waste, fraud and abuse in the Federal government, and worked to strengthen our borders with Mexico and Canada and fight illegal immigration.

Rogers also serves on the House Armed Services committee. This past year, Rogers used his Armed Services assignment to help protect the Third District’s military installations – Ft. Benning, Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, and the Anniston Army Depot – from the Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC). He has also continued to serve on the Agriculture Committee, where Rogers worked with Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte to help keep the Agriculture Department from closing critical Farm Service Agency offices across the district.

“The people of the Third Congressional District want an honest, hard working representative in Washington. I have worked hard, day in and day out, to be that person. Come this November, the people will once again decide if my work has been satisfactory,” he said.

Rogers said he expects another tough re-election campaign this year, and has continued an aggressive fundraising effort to support his campaign. He said he would report approximately $720,000 cash on hand going into 2006. “Needless to say, I am humbled by the financial support I have continued to receive.”

“National Democrats, led by Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) and Chairman Rahm Emanuel (D-Chicago), desperately want to take this seat. Consequently, I have never stopped working to gain the support necessary to fight back against what I can only assume will be a negative campaign orchestrated by shady D.C. political operatives,” he said.

"We applaud Mike's efforts in going against the grain and saying "no" to unfair trade agreements and encourage other lawmakers from Alabama and Southern textile areas to follow his example.

A decade of lessons should be put to use at some point and Rogers' efforts are a glimmer of hope those lessons will at some point prove useful."
